Tatiana’s story: Celebrating Isaiah

My name is Tatiana, and I’m the mother of Isaiah who is 6 years old. We found out about the Trisomy 21 diagnosis when I was 11 weeks pregnant.  

When Isaiah was born, he was also born with everted eyelids. We had to put ointment on his eyes every two hours. He was put in OT, PT, and eventually speech therapy. We were told he wouldn’t walk or talk. Today he runs around everywhere. He continues speech therapy and communicates with ASL (older brother and little brother have learned as well) and some words. He eventually got corrective eye surgery for the everted eyelids. They still flip but not as much.  

Isaiah has such a big heart and a smile that lights up a room. In school older students stop to say hi and give hugs. Acceptance for all individuals with Trisomy 21 and other disabilities is one I know all parents advocate for. Seeing our children involved and participating shows us they can do anything.
