Meet Golf’s Newest Celebrity at our August Golf Outing

This summer’s golf outing benefitting GiGi’s Playhouse will NOT be your average golf outing. Why? Because the star of the show that day is none other than Amy Bockerstette, the young woman with Down syndrome whose golf skills have made her a viral video sensation

Amy is the 20-year-old GiGi’s Playhouse program participant who stunned spectators with her par on the iconic 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale. Her incredible feat came during a practice round with PGA Pro Gary Woodland. That video drew more than 43 million views on social media. When Woodland went on to win his first major at the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, he surprised Amy with a Facetime call during his post-tournament news conference, telling her “I used your positive energy” to win.

The Bockerstettes first became part of the GiGi’s Playhouse family when themoved to Arizona and discovered GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix. Amy is actively involved in the “Fantastic Friends” program in Phoenix, which helps young adults with Down syndrome develop social and language skills through peer to peer interaction.

Amy’s positive attitude and amazing golf skills have earned her a special distinction. She is the first person with Down syndrome to land a college athletic scholarship. As GiGi’s Playhouse special guest at the August 26 golf outing, she will be showing the world what individuals with Down syndrome can achieve!

We’ve sold out the golf portion of our event, but that doesn’t mean you can’t meet Amy! Once the golfing wraps up, join her on the patio for “BBQ, Bourbon & Banter” at The Club at Wynstone in Barrington. We’ll be serving upscale BBQ off the grill, paired with a variety of cocktails and tastings from purveyors including FEW Spirits, Tito’s and Small Town Brewery.
