GiGi’s At Home Volunteer Spotlight: Alec

Alec and Olivia during a GiGi’s At Home tutoring session.

Alec was Olivia’s tutor for the past year while he attended medical school! We knew going into the summer he was starting med school rotations and would have to stop tutoring a little early, but he loved tutoring and wanted to attend as long as he could.

When the day came that Alec told Olivia it would be his last, she had tears in her eyes. Olivia, with her delightful personality, said through her tears

she was happy she didn’t have math the rest of the summer, but she did not want him to go. Alec explained to Olivia that it was finally his turn to start performing surgery- like in the show they bonded over, Grey’s Anatomy.

Alec and Olivia talk about their favorite things.

He told Olivia that she helped him so much, and now when he has a patient going under anesthesia, he will have them count backward, as they do in subtraction.  And when they come to, he will ask them about odd and even numbers.  These are things they have been working on together. After their lesson, they hung up, and Olivia sent this message to Alec: “Congratulations Being Doctor Alec, good luck being DR Alec.”

Thank you, Alec, for being an amazing volunteer tutor!

Please register here if you would like to be a fantastic volunteer too!
