Generation G Goes to Hollywood! Our Voice is Being Heard!

What do you get when you mix Rachel, from Born This Way, Dustin from Special Olympics, Tim Shriver Jr, Franco, Bella, GiGi & me?

A dream team fighting for our kids! We recently traveled to Long Beach, CA for a private meeting with Tom Segura, the comedian from Netflix, and his manager about his use and abuse of people with special needs and especially his abuse of families with Down syndrome on social media.

It was a very open and lively discussion. We are still in negotiations with Tom to take the content out of his special, which is why we are not talking too much about it publicly yet, but please be on the lookout soon for an official public statement! This is a learning experience for all and we are working towards a resolution that will make people understand that our kids are not a punchline and that this will not be tolerated.
The biggest news to share is that our voice is being heard! Last month, Netflix turned down a BIG comedy special that had similar content against our population. All content must be submitted and approved before Netflix will commit! This was a HUGE production that was turned down until they changed their content. As hard as this has all been, it is WORKING!!

Generation G continues to be the force that leads all we do! Be better every day! Be Accepting. Be Generous. Be Kind!

I cannot begin to tell you how special it was to watch my other kids voice be heard. When Franco was talking to Tom Segura, as a peer and a fan, it was great to watch him then turn the subject to social responsibility. The comedy landscape has changed. You used to only be able to watch the bad stuff at 2 am on Comedy Central or when you saw them in person. Now on Netflix, any 10-year old can stream the show and hear them using these words and think it is OK, even though they are not really understanding the content just that it gets a laugh. Tom was very engaged and seemed to really listen to Franco. I was so proud of my kids that day.

After our meeting with Tom, we returned to Hollywood again for the premiere screening of Spare Room, a new movie featuring an actor with Down syndrome named Cole Sibus. We are thrilled to see acceptance and inclusion woven into this powerful story. The acting was great and the twists and turns kept you on your feet! I give Spare Room two thumbs up!
