The Book, The Today Show & Gala | A week at GiGi’s Playhouse

The last several days have been some of the most intense and the most amazing moments of my life! Earlier last week, while feeling very stressed, I decided I needed to once again put off the launch of my #GenerationG book on 3.21 (World Down Syndrome Day). I was so buried and just couldn’t do it.

As soon as I decided to not move forward the miracles started coming! First, the Today Show called to shoot a segment with us at the Playhouse! The only problem was they were shooting the next day (Thursday of gala week) and the story will run on March 19th! Which means the book needed to be ready! The team at GiGi’s Playhouse did what they always do, they got it done, in the midst of last-minute Gala work they made sure our Playhouse was ready for the Today Show and they celebrated with me!

After an invigorating day with the incredibly kind Today Show crew, I returned home to find my friend Father Fred happened to stop by. That is when I truly knew it was a God thing. The message of #GenerationG is meant to be and God was not going to have me putting it off again!! DON’T STOP BELIEVING!! #GenerationG will be available at Hugs & Mugs and at the online store on Thursday, March 22nd! Oh my goodness, we did it!!

Never one to just sit back and take a breath….;) We jumped right into the best night of the year, the ‘i have a Voice’ gala!! Over 1000 people joined together for one cause to CELEBRATE Down syndrome! Did we ever celebrate, Rob Johnson of CBS 2 Chicago once again joined us, amazing auctions, music from 7th Heaven and my girl, my inspiration, my boo got up in front of 1000 people and welcomed them with her own words and excitement. How many people can say they have what it takes to do that, especially at 15!?

Happy to have our special guests the Chicago area retired NFL players who gifted GiGi her very own signed ball! No one is allowed to touch it!

Once again YOU showed up and you gave! You believed and you said yes to more purposeful programming and yes to more opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome to become their Best of All!!! From the bottom of my heart thank you. 2018 is going to be the year to remember! Buckle up and let’s do this! #strongertogether!

My daughter Marie-Claire is busy fundraising https://support.gigisplayhouse.org/fundraiser/1319348 so that She can have a GiGi’s Playhouse in her city of Charlotte, NC. We are excited to be apart of this growing movement that will profoundly change the lives of the people it serves. Thank you Nancy and GiGi for your vision and love.

If you want to get something done give it to a busy person. If you want to make a big difference in changing the World’s perception of Down syndrome, give it to Nancy Gianni. Nancy, acting on your invitation, we have all signed the ball and together have embraced the Promise to move it forward. World Down Syndrome Day, 2018. A day of Action. So proud to be on the Journey. Big Love! Richard
