People with Down syndrome often manage a wide range of complex health conditions, but skin health is frequently overlooked. That’s why a first-of-its-kind dermatology clinic dedicated specifically to patients with Down syndrome is gaining national attention.
Led by pediatric dermatologist Jillian Rork, MD, the Down Syndrome Dermatology Clinic in Manchester, New Hampshire, provides specialized care for children and adults with Down syndrome.
While individuals with Down syndrome regularly see specialists for heart, endocrine, gastrointestinal, and immune-related conditions, skin health has historically received far less attention… even though people with Down syndrome are at higher risk for difficult-to-treat skin conditions that can be complicated by other medical needs.
Though the clinic opened in 2021, it’s now being recognized as a potential model for healthcare systems nationwide. Patients travel from across the U.S. to receive thoughtful, personalized care.
At GiGi’s Playhouse, we’re thrilled to see specialized, innovative healthcare that sees people with Down syndrome for who they are: individuals.
