What does Generation G look like?

Today is the Day! Today we link arms with friends and family around the globe to shout our pride in individuals living with Down syndrome! We throw kindness and acceptance out to everyone who will listen and we invite EVERYONE to make a conscious decision to be better every day and join Generation G!

Be Accepting.

Be Generous.

Be Kind.

We have a few friends from around the GiGi’s Playhouse Network who are leading the way and showing how they live Generation G!

Meet Hope from GiGi’s Playhouse Phoenix

Generation G is a conscious decision to be better every day – What is something in your life that you are committed to working on and being better at each day?  After being at our Camp Exploration this summer,  I am trying to work out and eat healthier every day.  I am committed to helping to make my family and friends happier by telling them thank you for all they do for and with me. I am very grateful for my mom and dad because they gave up a lot of their time for me.

Generation G is generosity in action. – What are some ways you show generosity (or kindness) in your community?  When I meet people I make them happier by smiling at them and asking them how do you do, shake their hand, and giving them a compliment about how they look.  I also am a volunteer at Freeless Kitties Rescue Shelter.I clean the cages and give the kitties a lot of attention by petting them.

Why is the Generation G mission important to you, your friends and the community?  It is important to have a voice for ALL people with disabilities.  I want to be an advocate and a global messenger to share my stories as well as others, too.  I want to make sure that everyone with Down syndrome, from babies to adults,  get a chance to grow up learning every day.

Why should people join the Generation G movement? Everyone should join Generation G to be generous to all people not just people with  Down syndrome.  Everyone needs to give back to others so our world is a better place for everyone, especially people with Down syndrome and other disabilities.

Next, we meet Caryn from GiGi’s Playhouse Hillsborough

Generation G is a conscious decision to be better every day – What is something in your life that you are committed to working on and being better at each day? I am working on being a role model for children with Down syndrome & their parents. I want to show them that if you set goals, work hard and never give up, you can be anything you want to be. I am using the skills I am learning in college, such as public speaking, computer skills, and sign language to help me towards my goal of a good job working with children and being an advocate for people with Down syndrome.

Generation G is generosity in action. – What are some ways you show generosity (or kindness) in your community? I try to help people whenever I can.  It may be holding a door, picking up something for someone, helping someone with their children, and just being friendly. I also volunteer at GiGi’s Playhouse, I do team paperwork for Special Olympics, and I work as a volunteer at Special Olympic & community events.

Why is the Generation G mission important to you, your friends and the community? We want people with Down syndrome to be accepted for the wonderful, talented & capable people we are!  The more people see me and others like me who advocate for people with Down Syndrome in kind generous ways in the community, the more we are accepted and the more opportunities we have.

Why should people join the Generation G movement? Being part of a good change in the community is exciting. Everybody is different and needs to be accepted for who they are. We will all get along better because when people are accepting, generous and kind to each other, it’s contagious.

Chris from GiGi’s Playhouse Hillsborough also has thoughts to share!

Generation G is a conscious decision to be better every day – What is something in your life that you are committed to working on and being better at each day? I am committed to a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy, exercise and doing sports and other things like dance class.

Generation G is generosity in action. – What are some ways you show generosity (or kindness) in your community? I bring food to my church for their food drive for those in need. I also buy a holiday gift for our church’s giving tree. I help my grandmother take out her garbage and do yard work.

Why is the Generation G mission important to you, your friends and the community? We all want to be treated the same.

Why should people join the Generation G movement? People should join the movement to learn more about people with Down syndrome and acceptance.

Last but certainly not least we have Bill from GiGi’s Playhouse Syracuse sharing his thoughts.

Generation G is a conscious decision to be better every day – What is something in your life that you are committed to working on and being better at each day? I am working on my computer skills. Learning how to manage my email account.

Generation G is generosity in action. – What are some ways you show generosity (or kindness) in your community? I treat everyone I meet with respect. I help children by trying to be a good example. I volunteer at Syracuse Stage, GiGi’s Playhouse and at my church.

Why is the Generation G mission important to you, your friends and the community? People who have special needs want and need friends like everyone does. It feels good to meet new people and when they become a friend it is the best.

Why should people join the Generation G movement? If everyone decided to be kind and a friend every day our community would be the very best ever. Generation G makes me happy and I want everyone to be happy.

Hey, Generation G Gang! You are making it happen. I was thrilled to interview Caryn at the “new” Hillsborough Playhouse a few weeks ago. Inspiring!!! My expectations for my grandson (9) with Down syndrome were already high. Now, Louis, we’ll still keep it real and focus on the mountain-top…but outer space is not out of the question! Our family is so thankful for the family that is GiGi’s Playhouse. Big love! Richard Reilly – The Grandparent Connection.
