People with Down syndrome are living longer and looking for love and companionship, thus breaking the societal barriers that have prevented their love from growing.

Did you know that couples like Charlotte and Stephen can be penalized for falling in love? Based on current federal policy, if two people with disabilities (on SSI) want to get married, they will incur a 25% reduction in their monthly benefits, their asset limit (how much they can save) and their income limit (how much they can earn). This is only the beginning of discrimination against people with disabilities. In some states, they can legally be paid less than minimum wage, penalized for working, be excluded in organ transplants, be segregated in schools, and the list goes on. GiGi’s own Franco Gianni and Dan Vosnos participated, along with other Down syndrome organizations, in a national coalition aimed at advocating for necessary legislative changes for our individuals and families. More to come!

GiGi’s Playhouse Represents at Super Bowl LVIII
|
GiGi’s Playhouse captured the attention of thousands at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, shining a light on our #GenerationG messaging for the world! Featured on page 263 of the Official NFL Super Bowl Program, we had a unique opportunity to spread acceptance by capturing an entirely new audience and encouraging individuals to take our I Accept You pledge. It was an incredible opportunity to ‘level the playing field’, not just for individuals with Down syndrome but for people of all abilities. We are encouraged by the outpouring of positive feedback we have received thus far from our supporters, both new and old. #GenerationG is our way forward in this world, and we were excited to generate awareness on a global scale!
Let’s keep this campaign going and make sure to ask your friends, colleagues, everyone to take the I Accept You pledge here.

Purposeful Programs Change Lives
|
“We thought GiGi’s was going to be fun for [our daughter] to go to and play in the Playhouse. We had no idea the impact that consistent weekly and monthly purposeful programming would have on Isabella’s development! GiGi’s has become her second home. She has become stronger and more confident. GiGi’s has changed her life!” ~ Kelly & Jim Rogers
As GiGi’s Playhouse Lancaster prepares to celebrate its Grand Re-Opening at a new location, which is more than twice the size of their original Playhouse, families are taking a moment to reflect on the significant impact that the programs have had during the first four years.
