Best of All April 2023 Issue – Literacy Tutoring

Did you know that our Playhouse offers 1-on-1 literacy tutoring for all ages? Our year is divided into 3 sessions – winter/spring, summer, and fall. The literacy program includes weekly lessons with an assigned tutor that last 45-60 minutes for 10 weeks. Our Playhouse is lucky enough to be able to offer both in-person AND virtual tutoring options. Curious about summer literacy tutoring? Don’t miss a beat this summer and click HERE to complete the literacy application!

Each month, we choose from a variety of “Best of All” submissions that have been gathered throughout the past 30 days. This month, we are highlighting our literacy program! Grab a cup of coffee and get comfy on the couch, get ready to be inspired!

“My student started literacy tutoring with me in January, and has since began sounding out three letter words, attempting to blend each sound together. My favorite thing about him is how happy he is for himself when he reads a word. He is very persistent, and will read the word over and over until he is able to understand it. After he gets it, he will yell excitedly, give himself a drumroll, and hug us/give us big high-fives! This past month, he was able to read his first book here completely independently. We were all so proud!”

Sydney, Literacy Tutor

“Working with my student this session has been a great experience. At the beginning, it was difficult to remain attentive for the full session. This gave me the idea to split this time into two 20-minute sessions. This resulted in huge changes regarding her focus. She loves singing along to our phonogram YouTube videos and listening to our read-aloud Pete the Cat book. Our accomplishments this session include her turning the pages and attending to the whole story, and identifying the name and sound of several letters.”
