Meet our 2024 Summer Literacy Team!
We are excited to announce the launch of our 2024 Summer Literacy Program, an initiative designed to support students in enhancing their reading based on individual interests and inspirations. Our trained tutors are dedicated to fostering a love for literature and improving literacy among students of all ages. Meet Miss Andrea, Miss Erica, Miss Sarah, and Miss Allison!
Hello, I’m Andrea and I’m gearing up for exciting summer literacy tutoring sessions at GiGi’s Playhouse Indianapolis! I can’t wait to meet the family I’ve been paired with to begin our journey of learning and friendship together. This opportunity to join the GiGi’s Indy literacy team was mentioned to me by my husband, who also volunteers with GiGi’s. The GiGi’s motto of celebrating each step and giving our best every day resonates with my own daily outlook. My previous education roles were in museum exhibits and as a preschool teacher. It will be so fun to use my background in education to create meaningful lessons and games with my tutoring family. My family, Josh and our 10 year old son, loves to play outside and visit theme parks! We have a hound, Flash, who gets us out for two walks a day and is a pro at sniffing out treats we hide around house. Looking forward to making our summer one to remember!
I am a 52 year old mother, realtor and volunteer. My husband and I have 2 boys and a girl, 25, 23, and 21. I am originally from Philadelphia but have lived in Indianapolis for 20 years. I have a younger sister named Alexis who is 49 and has Down syndrome. She still lives with my parents in Philadelphia, but I think how wonderful it would have been if there had been a place like GiGi’s when we were growing up.
My name is Sarah and I recently graduated with my Masters in Public Health from IU Indianapolis. I started volunteering at GiGi’s Playhouse Indianapolis during COVID as a Math and Literally Tutor! I enjoy volunteering with GiGi’s due to the welcoming and friendly environment and the array of educational programming they offer for all of the kiddos!
Hi! I’m Allison, wife to Chris and mom of three wonderful kids—Emma, Bailey, and Aiden. We live in Carmel, Indiana, where I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. I am passionate about helping individuals achieve their full potential. I enjoy learning about the best methodologies for teaching children with Down syndrome to read, and I love witnessing the growth and development in the individual I tutor. I believe that learning to read is essential for one’s journey towards success and independence.
