Five Ways to Incorporate Activity In Your Week

Last week, we visited with our fabulous volunteer Bootcamp leader Angie Champsaur and she promised to share some tips parents can use to incorporate activity into their busy weeks.

Angie’s Five Tips for Fit LifestylesAngie and Kennedy

1) Go outdoors. Now that the weather is nice, it’s a great time to get active outside. A great activity is walking around the neighborhood before dinner or going to the park after school. On the weekends, maybe they can help you with yard work.

2) Find what motivates your child. If there is a favorite toy your child likes to play with, hide it or put it in a place that requires effort to get the toy. For example, hide the toy under the bed, so the child has to reach and crawl to get the toy. Or, if you are in the living room, for example, ask your child to choose something green and select all the things that are green in the room. The key is having them go to every spot and touch the item that is green.

3) Use your surroundings. Instead of using an elevator, use the stairs. If you live in an area that has a big hill, walk up the hill with your child. You and your child will feel your heart rate increase as you go up the incline.

4) Race to the finish line. This works especially if there are siblings involved. Create a relay race. Use markers to signify a starting and ending point. Not only can you run from point-to-point, but you can hop, skip and jump.
