Volunteer Spotlight on our Hispanic Community

The Hispanic Community has turned out for GiGi’s Atlanta!  We are blown away by the support of time, talents, and innovative ideas!

First we were graced with the incredible skills of Celi Viloria, of CeliOrganizer. She and her team spent hours sorting through an array of tutoring tools, games, art supplies, and so much more! They brought in color coordinated bins purchased through a fundraiser Celi organized in honor of GiGi’s Atlanta. This effort not only allows us to have our supplies neat and orderly, it eliminates the clutter from our tutoring rooms allowing our students better focus and learning! Check out this amazing Before & After of our new Merchandise closet!

Celi then connected us to Rosa Moreno of Rosa Moreno Kitchens who came and donated her expertise in designing our new kitchen space to be complete early this year! This design includes a full size refrigerator, dish washer, and more counter space to give our participants a real kitchen learning experience! We can’t wait to start cooking in this new setup!

The Saihou Tribe from Trilogy is a team of community leaders who are on a mission to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families affected by Down syndrome. They discovered GiGi’s Playhouse Atlanta and we could not be more honored by the pouring out of support and enthusiasm! They have not only purchased equipment to outfit our new gym, they created a vibrant mural as a visual love letter defining our shared vision of inclusion and acceptance! That wasn’t enough for this group though! They came back with shelving and seating to create a library area in our new space complete with a cozy reading tent with twinkle stars!

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, this team has visited GiGi’s Playhouse on three separate occasions bringing with them unmatched joy and acceptance! They have entertained, supplied, and fed our participants and volunteers. There is spoiled, and then there is Saihou spoiled and we learned the true meaning of that this past Saturday, January 6 as they celebrated the holiday of Epiphany (Three Kings Day) at the Playhouse! Our families were surprised by a visit from Bluey & Bingo, fed a wonderful lunch, and treated to a MOUNTAIN of gifts from which they could choose whichever and however many items they wanted! It was an incredible display of love and support for our Down syndrome community! Many people call this holiday “Little Christmas” but it was a BIG Christmas for us!

GiGi’s Playhouse Atlanta is proud to recognize that unity and strength comes from diverse communities coming together to support a common goal, in this case, our loved ones with Down syndrome. We are so honored to have been gifted with the time, talents, and expertise of these compassionate groups spreading awareness and acceptance!
