Volunteers Who Inspire: Kelsey’s Journey with GiGiMove – Fitness
At GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego, our volunteers are the heartbeat of everything we do. Their energy, passion, and dedication make our programs possible, and they create life-changing experiences for our participants. One such program is GiGiMove – Fitness, where volunteers like Kelsey lead the way, helping individuals with Down syndrome stay active, build confidence, and have fun.
Meet Kelsey
Kelsey is one of our incredible volunteers who isn’t afraid to jump in wherever she’s needed. Most recently, she stepped into a leadership role in our rotating GiGiMove – Fitness program, bringing enthusiasm and support to every participant.
Physical fitness is especially important for individuals with Down syndrome. Regular exercise can improve cardiovascular health, muscle strength, balance, and overall mobility. It also promotes confidence, social interaction, and mental well-being. Programs like GiGiMove provide a safe and encouraging space for participants to challenge themselves, celebrate progress, and experience the joy of movement.
We asked Kelsey to share a bit about her journey with GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego, and here’s what she had to share:
How did you find GiGi’s Playhouse?
“I found Gigi’s through searching for nonprofit organizations that offered programs for individuals with special needs.”
We’re proud to say that when searching for volunteer opportunities in San Diego, GiGi’s Playhouse consistently comes up first, especially for Down syndrome-specific programs which allows our services to reach more individuals with Down syndrome across San Diego county.
What made you want to volunteer?
“I was previously a volunteer with the Special Olympics in Arizona and it was such a blast so I was looking for another great organization to be a part of here in San Diego.”
Keep an eye out—GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego is excited to continue building connections with Special Olympics San Diego in the future!
How has your experience been as a volunteer and can you share any examples?
“My experience has been so positive at Gigi’s, there are so many great programs and events to be involved in. Everyone is so welcoming, I’ve met so many fun and amazing people through Gigi’s. I really enjoy being active so Fitness is one of my favorite programs to be at every week, but I also enjoy the special events like the Donut Run and Summer Picnic.”
We can’t thank Kelsey enough for her heart, dedication, and impact at GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego!
