Volunteer Spotlight: Renee Scoggins — Sharing Her Passion Through Art & Friendship

At GiGi’s Playhouse New Orleans, we are incredibly lucky to have passionate, dedicated volunteers who bring their talents and heart to our community. One of those shining stars is Renee Scoggins, a self-taught artist whose warmth and creativity have made a lasting impact on our participants and families.

Renee began volunteering at GiGi’s in July 2023, and in just two years, she has become an irreplaceable part of our Volunteer Team. She currently serves as the Program Leader for both Fantastic Friends and Art Explosion, where she brings energy, creativity, and genuine connection to every session.

With nearly 15 years of experience teaching art to individuals with disabilities at the Ree Alario Special Needs Center, Renee brought her incredible skill set to GiGi’s to support our community in meaningful ways. She started by helping with tutoring and Fantastic Friends and has since launched Art Explosion, a vibrant and engaging art program that debuted this summer. Due to its immediate success, we’re excited to share that Art Explosion will continue this Fall!

Professionally, Renee has dedicated her life to education and empowerment. She began her career in 1995 in Southern California, teaching art, leisure, and independent living skills to adults with developmental challenges. In 2003, she began teaching Psychology courses at the college level—a role she continues to fulfill online. Locally, she has also taught at Delgado Community College.

When she’s not inspiring our participants, Renee enjoys reading, creating her own art, and gardening with her son.

We are beyond grateful for the heart, creativity, and leadership Renee brings to GiGi’s Playhouse. Whether she’s helping friendships bloom at Fantastic Friends or encouraging self-expression through art, her presence makes every program better.

Thank you, Renee, for being such an amazing part of the GiGi’s Playhouse family!
