Volunteer Spotlight: Maggy Adams
We started this blog series for volunteer appreciation week in April, but we have so many wonderful volunteers to talk about it, that we decided to continue it through the year!
Just a reminder, GiGi’s Playhouse Madison is 99% volunteer run – which means we wouldn’t be here without our volunteers. We had 309 unique volunteers last year and have consistently been in the top five Playhouses for volunteer hours. It’s pretty incredible to think back on all of the hours people have given to us – 5,698 hours in 2022 alone!
These blogs will be posted in a question and answer format.
Maggy Adams
Why did you decide to volunteer with GiGi’s Playhouse?
I have several very special people in my life with Down syndrome! My Uncle Mark has Down syndrome and I grew up very close to him and my grandparents, who he lived with. My close friend also has a daughter who is a participant at GiGi’s, and I just love her to bits as well!
How long have you been a volunteer?
Since January of 2023.
What programs, committees or events have you volunteered with?
I am currently a math tutor and helped set up for the GiGiFit Acceptance Challenge run/walk. I attended the Gala last year, and can’t wait to return this year – what a blast!
Can you share a favorite moment from your time volunteering?
It’s a toss-up between watching my math tutor student become more confident in her math skills and the amazing yoga/dance moves I’ve learned from her!
What is the most impactful thing you have learned from your time at GiGi’s?
I love the celebration of each individual’s “best of all” moments. It’s such a wonderful mindset to celebrate where you are now, both big and small wins, and to just keep striving for your own best each day!
What advice would you give to someone that is new to volunteering or considering volunteering with GiGi’s Playhouse?
Just do it! You will never regret getting involved with such an amazing community!
