Run, Walk or Roll to Raise Awareness at the GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge

This is a blog by Maya Greengus, GiGi’s Playhouse Madison’s first board member with Down syndrome. Check back often to hear more from Maya, as she plans on sharing throughout the year – here and via our social media channels.
Some of you might ask:
- What is the GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge?
- How can I be involved? Fill out a volunteer form HERE.
- Why do we run/walk?
The GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge is a run/walk – a movement for acceptance. This year’s theme is: Super Hero’s Dash for Down Syndrome. Individuals who are born with Down syndrome have a superpower; what is it? We have an extra copy of the 21st chromosome, which means we have “extra” capacity to show the world we matter.
This GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge asks: Who will YOU move for?
Maybe you have a sibling, friend, co-worker, someone you have met at school, or have seen in public. For example: when you go to Target! (Maya works at Target)
You can run/walk with us on April 26 or you can exercise and support by posting on social media. It takes the whole community to raise awareness and foster acceptance and inclusion.
If you are interested in taking part in this event with us, we would love to have you be a part of this family friendly and inclusive event. Show your support for the Down syndrome community and have a ton of fun, too! You can sign up or donate here.
I think everyone should want to see people with Down syndrome live their life to the fullest. Let’s come together for a population that hasn’t always been accepted or included.
Together, we can make sure our friends, family and people we know with Down syndrome aren’t bullied, isolated or left behind simply because of a diagnosis.
