“His talker” EG’s Best of All moment

EG is a five-year-old boy who enjoys coming to GiGi’s to have fun and play. He attends GiGi’s for speech and language services weekly to improve his ability to communicate using lots of different strategies. Each week, EG works on adding sounds to his speech to help a partner understand his words. He also loves to help a partner understand his words by adding signs to his speech and by using words and symbols on his speech generating device, “his talker.”

EG’s communication skills continue to grow each week, and he shows us so many “best of all” moments!

Recently, EG’s “best of all” moments included his ability to independently find words that he was excited to communicate about using his talker. These are words that EG understands but that are often tricky for a partner to understand when EG uses his speech alone.  EG completed several steps to find the animal words on his speech generating device and was so excited to share about farm animals, reptiles, and bugs.

EG’s “best of all” moments continued with his quick learning of ways to help a partner understand which color blocks he wanted when building a tower. EG closely watched how his partners used their speech, signs, words, and symbols on EG’s talker to take turns communicating about building a tower. It was so fun to see how EG used his strategies together to communicate – he approximated the name of the color with his speech, found the word and symbol for his desired color on his talker, and signed each color. EG is such a motivated communicator, and it is so fun for EG and his communication partners when he uses all his different strategies and tools to connect with others!
