Fitness Fun at the Playhouse

This Summer we kicked off our first in-person Teen & Adult Fitness program called GiGiFIT at our Madison Playhouse. GiGiFIT programs combine physical therapy with a strong fitness focus and goal of success and improved movement. With collaboration from Physical Therapists, we were able to design a curriculum that works to address common issues for individuals with Down syndrome including hypotonia, excessive joint laxity, and decreased balance.

Week-to-week our program participants will be tracking and documenting their progress. We spent Week #1 collecting data and notes that will help document where participants were physically and mentally when they started this program. By the end of the session, GiGiFIT will have helped build on the strength, endurance, power, joint stability, balance, and movement control for all participants.

Offering this program is a huge milestone

Offering this program is a huge milestone, not only for GiGi’s Playhouse Madison, but for the Down syndrome community as a whole. Programs like these empower participants to be more independent and confident in their abilities while improving their overall health and wellness. Our GiGiFIT Teen & Adult program is able to run due to the dedication of our fearless program leader, Missy Miller, along with our other amazing program volunteers- Deanne, Rachel, Lauren and Judy.

We also want to give a shoutout to all of our generous sponsors and donors who supported us in the launching of this program. A major supporter is the Green Bay Packers Foundation. We have been able to use their generous grant to purchase the equipment and uniforms needed to succeed in this program. With continued support and fundraising, it’s our goal to offer GiGiFIT to participants of all ages!

Thank you to everyone who has been a supporter of our GiGiFIT program this far!!
