To fill that spot in your heart

Yesterday a mother with her 20-year old daughter with Down syndrome came to visit GiGi’s Playhouse. They loved it and we sat down to have some coffee and juice. Suddenly, the young woman turned to me and said: “It is so wonderful here, it makes me so happy to find this. You know there is this spot inside of me (and she pointed to her heart) and it’s Down syndrome, because that is what I sm, and this spot is now filled with happiness and love”. It was as if the sun rose behind the cloudy sky and it filled a spot in my heart I didn’t know I had. Those are the moments which are so defining and beautiful you will never forget them.

WOW! This is a positive sharing. Listen to our self advocates. Imagine discovering a place where you are truly comfortable being yourself. Most of us have this in our lives. We have the capacity, and opportunity, everyday to better environments for those we advocate for. This is GiGi’s Playhouse! Big Love, Richard Reilly – The Grandparent Connection.
