Destiny

Volunteer Spotlight: Jackie

Was it destiny? Jackie, a retired special educator, discovered the Playhouse when she walked past GiGi’s while shopping.  She now is celebrating her 3rd year anniversary as a volunteer program leader of our LMNOP – Language, Music N Our Peeps class. LMNOP helps children age newborn to 36-months-old learn sign language and other forms of communication using music, movement, and language-based activities.

Jackie’s interest in working with children with special needs began as a college student when she was a nanny for a child with Down syndrome.  After graduating from college, she worked with infants and toddlers in the home with their families.   Jackie taught for over 30 years, as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher in Kenosha, WI.

Her first love has always been watching young children grow and develop and it is has warmed her heart to be able to continue this love by teaching and playing with the youngest of our GiGi’s family.  Jackie shared, “I feel very fortunate that we have this space for children to explore, meet friends, and develop their skills and that I am able to play a part in this experience”.

Jackie and her husband returned to the Madison area they retired in order to be closer to family.  They live with their demanding and spoiled Beagle, named Boots.  Jackie loves to watch the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers, and to explore our State and National Parks throughout the country.

GiGi’s Playhouse could not exist without volunteers such as Jackie. Being 99% volunteer run, we benefit from the talents and expertise of our local community.

Thank you, Jackie, for your 3 years of amazing service!
