Volunteer Spotlight: Claire

Claire, a Senior at LaFollette High School, is a true believer in GiGi’s Playhouse. Since learning about GiGi’s Playhouse from a friend in the Fall of 2018, she has donated 114 volunteer hours!

Claire’s first experience volunteering for GiGi’s was at the “i have a Voice” Gala in October of 2018. Claire assisted with Gala tasks that made sure our largest fundraising event ran smoothly. Claire was proud to report, “I met THE GiGi Gianni!”

Since then, Claire has been an active program volunteer assistant in Fantastic Friends, Adaptive Dance, Dynamic Duals, and Open Play. She even, recently, put her artistic skills to use by painting our front window with an uplifting message for St. Patrick’s Day, “We are so lucky you are here!”

Claire’s main motivation to volunteer at GiGi’s, “Is the environment in the Playhouse – everyone is so kind and accepting toward one another, and it is so refreshing! I have also loved being immersed in the community and learning more about the lives of friends with Down syndrome.”

Outside of the Playhouse, Claire maintains an active life. She attends high school, works at a local café, and nannies in the summer. At school, she is the Captain of the tennis team and the President of National Honor Society. Claire loves yoga, running, cooking yummy vegan food, and playing the ukulele. This Fall, Claire plans to attend university in Orange, California with a major in Education. She wants to be a teacher!

Claire, from all of us at GiGi’s Playhouse, THANK YOU!
