Dancing Into Our Hearts

Volunteer Spotlight: Abigail

Abigail is originally from Erie, Pennsylvania. She has lived in numerous cities across the country and landed in Madison, WI in 2014. She started dancing when was 5 and started dancing professionally at age 18.

In 2017 Abigail founded Magnum Opus Ballet and serves the company as both a dancer and the artistic director. In 2018 she received her adaptive dance certification from the prestigious Boston Ballet and is thrilled to be a part of the incredible work at GiGi’s Playhouse.

Abigail learned about GiGi’s Playhouse Madison through a fellow dancer, who owns a local dance studio, who had another friend that was part of the Playhouse.  She has volunteered her time by directing the adaptive dance program in Madison and began volunteering with the Madison Playhouse in January of 2019.

Her motivation for volunteering with GiGi’s Playhouse Madison is simple, her sister has Down syndrome and Abigail has always had a heart to be involved in organizations that serve this community. “I believe that every individual in this world has worth, value and purpose. I saw what incredible work that GiGi’s did for the Down syndrome community and I wanted to be a part of that. Dance is something that is so much more than what meets the eye. Dance can help with an individual’s balance, muscle tone, rhythm, self-confidence and it can certainly bring an immense amount of joy! Myself and Magnum Opus Ballet plan to be a part of GiGi’s Playhouse for years to come! ”

While the Adaptive Dance class’s end of season performance was rescheduled to October, that isn’t stopping Abigail from still bringing the joy of dance to people across the country! She represented the Madison Playhouse through a LIVE streaming GiGi’s at Home class that will be happening each Monday through May 4th.

THANK YOU to Abigail and to everyone at Magnum Opus Ballet that has brought so much joy to the Playhouse and all the dance participants!
