Community Connections January 2023 Issue – Cathedral High School

Did you know that GiGi’s Playhouse is 99% volunteer-ran? That’s right! When Cathedral High School reached out about sending 300 students out into the community during their J-term session, we were thrilled about the opportunity to host! During January, 25 students spent 4 hours volunteering at the playhouse through a variety of projects.

  • Organized the program and program closet
  • Repainted the chalk board walls
  • Calculated playhouse yearly inventory
  • Deep cleaned the rock climbing wall
  • Assembled our new Community Library

Please enjoy these statements from the Cathedral teachers that organized the service day –

“We were blessed with the opportunity to serve and learn about GiGi’s Playhouse. The students and staff of Cathedral were so inspired by the work Gigi’s Playhouse does to support individuals and families. While at GiGi’s Playhouse, students had the opportunity to interact and play with small children and their families. Students also helped complete inventory and worked on craft projects for upcoming events. What a true blessing GiGi’s Playhouse is for the community and Cathedral was happy they could serve their needs.”

“Prior to the service day, I knew very little about GiGi’s. I enjoyed learning about the services offered and meeting people that work and volunteer there. The students painted and helped make a little library in addition to other various tasks. I want to thank GiGi’s for allowing our freshmen to serve. I’m hopeful that some of the students may be inspired to continue serving at GiGi’s in order to fulfill service hours at Cathedral.”

We are so grateful that we are able to host local students and model inclusion, ability and kindness. After all, they are the next generation of leaders!
