Volunteer Spotlight: Sofia

At GiGi’s Playhouse Canton, we’re grateful to shine a light on one of our incredible volunteers, Sofia, whose compassion and dedication have made a lasting impact on our Playhouse community!

Sofia is a Canton native and a proud graduate of McKinley High School’s Class of 2020. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, she continued her academic journey and is currently pursuing her Master’s in School Counseling at The University of Akron. In addition to her studies, Sofia shares her talents at the YMCA, where she teaches preschool, leads before/after school programs, and helps run summer camp.

Sofia’s enthusiasm for working with children shines in everything she does. She loves trying new things and exploring new places, cooking up delicious meals, getting outside in nature, diving into a good book, and relaxing with some coloring.

Her connection to GiGi’s Playhouse began through family friends who are members of the Playhouse (The Big Dog – iykyk). Wanting to give back to the community and work with children, Sofia eagerly joined as a volunteer, and we’re so lucky she did!

Sofia first got involved as a Literacy and Math Tutor, using her background in psychology and education to support our participants’ academic growth. More recently, she has brought her energy and heart to our GiGiFIT Infant and Preschoolers classes. Watching the youngest participants build strength, coordination, and confidence each week has become one of Sofia’s favorite parts of volunteering.

“I love watching the infants and preschoolers grow so much over the course of GiGiFIT,” she shared. “Every week they gain so many skills in such a short amount of time!”

Sofia’s calm presence, creativity, and care for every individual she works with truly make her an example of our core value, Best of All, in action. We are so grateful to have her as part of the GiGi’s Playhouse Canton family!
