Volunteer Spotlight: Lisa Stropki

At GiGi’s Playhouse Canton, our volunteers bring joy, dedication, and heart to every interaction, and today we are thrilled to celebrate Lisa Stropki! 

Lisa’s greatest passion is reading—she loves the places it takes you and the things you learn along the way. She brings that love of learning to her role as a literacy tutor, spreading the joy of reading to her friend Aidan at the Playhouse. At the Playhouse, Lisa dedicates an hour each week to tutoring Aidan, cherishing every moment they spend together. Her favorite memory? Feeling welcomed the very first time she walked through the Playhouse doors—an experience that has stayed with her and motivated her continued involvement. 

Lisa and her husband, Don, celebrated their 32nd anniversary in May. They have a son, Nick, who is 21 and considered their greatest blessing. Together, Lisa and Don started a manufacturing business in 2001, which they enjoy running. Beyond work, Lisa loves to travel and finds delight in building Lego sets—a hobby that sparks her creativity and patience. 

When it comes to favorites, Lisa enjoys steak and baked potato, and some of her favorite restaurants include Gervasi (locally) and Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse in Columbus. She adores the colors and seasons of spring and fall, reflecting her warm, thoughtful personality. 

Lisa first learned about GiGi’s Playhouse through her second cousin, Paxton, who was born with Down syndrome in 2023. Visiting the Playhouse with Paxton’s family, she was immediately impressed by the welcoming environment and impactful programs. When she saw a volunteer opportunity, she jumped at the chance to apply, and has been enriching the lives of GiGi’s participants ever since. 

We are so grateful for Lisa’s enthusiasm, patience, and love of learning. Volunteers like her remind us that every moment at GiGi’s Playhouse can inspire growth, joy, and confidence. Tutor applications are open for the Fall 2026 session, which runs September 7th through December 19th and all training is provided.
