Thank You Team Target
Since its establishment in 2013, GiGi’s Playhouse Twin Cities has provided free purposeful programming to over 1,000 families in our database. This achievement has been made possible through the dedicated efforts of our exceptional volunteers. We are so fortunate to have a broad base of volunteers including local high school students, teachers, corporate employees, and individuals driven by a passion for making a positive impact. During the last month, three distinct teams from Target graciously gave of their time and talent over two separate days. Notably, each team included a mother of a child that has participated in GiGi’s Twin Cities programming.
For many this was their first time at GiGi’s. Renae, who works on the Property Management Team, for instance, discovered GiGi’s through her coworker Chris B, whose son Baur has been an active participant in GiGi’s Twin Cities programs. Renae shared her initial impression, stating, “The place is beautiful, and the gym looked like a great place for all kinds of activities. The kitchen, learning labs, and the open space are amazing! Just love it and glad Baur is loving it too.” Ken and Laura, who are part of Target’s Talent Acquisition Team heard about GiGi’s Playhouse from their coworker, Anne, whose daughter Ava attended GiGi’s programming. When asked why they chose to volunteer at GiGi’s over the holiday season Laura said, “I loved all the things I have heard about GiGi’s over the years from Anne and was excited to contribute to a really fantastic and needed organization.”. Ken, added “Volunteering at GiGi’s is a meaningful experience for me because I believe in the mission of promoting acceptance and empowerment for individuals with Down syndrome. Being part of a community that values diversity and inclusion is incredibly rewarding, and I wanted to contribute to creating a positive impact.”
At GiGi’s Playhouse Twin Cities we always want our volunteers to take something from their experience. Before all three of our Target teams left, they came together to talk about what they learned. Laura felt inspired by learning about GiGi’s Playhouse Adult Education Pathway. “I had no idea how GiGi’s helped to support individuals with Down syndrome getting into the workforce. How wonderful is that!”. Ken also enjoyed his day at GiGi’s Playhouse
“Oh where do I start? Volunteering at GiGi’s is like entering a joy-filled wonderland. I’ve learned that laughter is contagious, kindness is magic, and dancing like nobody’s watching is a life skill. It’s not just about giving it’s about receiving a truckload of positivity in return.”
Ken
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Anne G, Chris A, and Chris B for their instrumental roles in amplifying the message of GiGi’s Playhouse Twin Cities. Their efforts have not only brought their colleagues together, but they are playing an active role in changing the way the world views a Down syndrome diagnosis and amplifying the global message of acceptance for all.
