The time we made our own Sunshine…|GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center, Syracuse NY

As the day of our third annual 5k drew close we started to get nervous, all that beautiful fall weather we had been experiencing was taking a turn. Clouds, rain, and cold were moving in.  We were asked “is there a rain date?” Nope, it was now or never.  Here’s the thing about our community, we know how to rally, we know how to have a fabulous time in less than ideal situations and we know how to do hard things with big smiles!! Bravo and thank you to everyone who came with their raincoats, boots, GiGi’s shirts and SMILES!

Can we share a quick minute about our friend Julie Tennant (The Love Chromosome) This summer our very generous friends at Fleet Feet opened up some spaces in their No Boundaries Beginner 5k program. Julie and her sister in law Heather signed up and made a commitment to work hard and train for the 2014 GiGi’s Playhouse 5k.  Julie came, smiled and worked hard, she is the first individual with Down syndrome to complete the GiGi’s Playhouse Syracuse 5k and we could not be more proud of her!! Three cheers for Julie and her whole family!!  They are a bright spot in this community for sure. Anyone saying “I could never” take a note from Julies playbook….YOU CAN! We expect to see more amazing people out there running with us next year. Thank you Julie and team for setting a great example!

Your support of our event and the families we partner with is very appreciated.  Knowing that we have a community of people who BELIEVE in the futures of our friends is a great gift, so from the bottom of our hearts thank you for helping us have such a wonderful day. Thank you also for helping us raise the funds to continue offering programing both educational and therapeutic to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. We are building something so amazing and we are so glad you are helping us do that!
