An exciting journey from Office Administrator to Program Coordinator
Working with GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego has been an incredible 4 years. I can easily say that this has been one of my favorite and dearest jobs ever.
Its work’s mission has opened my eyes to a world that I wasn’t familiar with before. In these four years, I have grown as a person and as a member of the staff in this organization.
I started working as an Office Administrator in October 2019, getting to know all things GiGi’s. Managing all aspects of the local playhouse including: the facility and equipment management, helping manage volunteers, assisting with Playhouse events and fundraisers, handling administrative duties, etc. All the way to attending the National Conference and meeting other staff from other parts of the United States and even Mexico!
Shortly after I started working at GiGi’s, a global pandemic hit everyone, and we had to close our doors and adapt for more than a year. We offered virtual programs and drive-through events to continue our goal of creating awareness and being in contact with our families.
Fast forward a few years later, and I was promoted to Program Coordinator, taking on more responsibilities from Tutoring programs to working with different Marketing platforms. GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego has taught me so much about inclusivity and awareness. And I have brought all of this with me across the Border into Mexico (where I’m originally from) and shared GiGi’s mission of awareness and global acceptance with friends and family.
With the help of GiGi’s staff and volunteers I’ve also started the first of some small Spanish-speaking events, called “Amigos de GiGi’s”. In these events we had story tellers in Spanish, we sang songs in Spanish, we even had a Book truck selling books in Spanish and traditional Hispanic treats.
It has definitely been an amazing experience!
Working at GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego has been like coming to a second home, everyone from volunteers, families and participants have been very friendly and they all welcome you with open arms.
The reason why I’m saying this, is because GiGi’s has also welcomed my son when he has attended and helped at events for the last four years. He loves coming to volunteer at GiGi’s, he knows many of the families and they know him. Truly a unique and wonderful experience.
This has definitely been an exciting work opportunity, working at a family friendly organization, where I have made some great friends!
I can’t wait to see what the future might bring!
