Rock Star Summer Session

We had a rock star one-on-one session this summer! 22 individuals participated in tutoring and/or speech this summer, with 30 sessions scheduled each week.

At the end of the session, we gathered for a special Tutor Talk to celebrate and thank our amazing volunteer tutors. Over dinner, they shared their challenges, questions, tips, and tricks along with several “Best of All” moments from the past eight weeks of learning. Here are just a few highlights:

🌟 Tutor Talk Highlights – Summer One-on-One Session 🌟

Olivia & Rachel
Olivia wrapped up the summer with her Best of All lesson yet! She mastered pattern bears and practiced adding numbers up to 5 using fun, creative methods. Not only that, but it was her longest lesson of the session—way to go, Olivia!

Amelia, Colleen & Margaret
Amelia worked hard in math and literacy with her tutors. As the weeks went on, she shifted from saying “no” to bravely trying new challenges. By the end of the session, Amelia was writing numbers, letters, and even some sight words. Such amazing progress—great job, Amelia!

Jack & Ava
Jack made big strides in literacy with the help of his favorite character—Pete the Cat! Following along with a book has been tricky, but when Ava found a video of Pete’s story, Jack lit up and followed along with ease. Sometimes the right format makes all the difference!

📊 Jack’s Math Best of All
Jack also shined in math by using his AAC (Augmentative Communication Device). He bravely identified numbers through his device—something he had been hesitant to do before—and he got it right! Huge win for Jack and a beautiful example of the power of communication.

💜 Many participants experienced #bestofall moments; these are just a few we are highlighting. This summer was filled with learning, growth, and joy—all in fun, purposeful ways. Thank you to our tutors and participants for making it such a successful session!
