Participant Spotlight: Kaiya Stafford

We are thrilled to introduce Kaiya Stafford this week! Kaiya is one of our amazing participants who attends a variety of our programming. Kaiya is kind, smart, responsible, and a wonderful friend to all. We are so thankful to have Kaiya as a part of the GiGi’s NYC family and are excited for you to learn more about her below!

When did you first join the GiGi’s Playhouse NYC community?

I first joined GiGis Playhouse NYC in 2016

What GiGi’s NYC programs do you attend?

The programs that I attend are: GiGiFITLitLab, Yoga, Judo, Monthly Magic Mondays, TeenTasticTeenTastic Night Out, and Zumba!

What program(s) is your favorite / has been the most impactful to you?

The programs that I like most are Monthly Magic MondaysLitLabTeenTastic, and Yoga. The ones that were most impactful to me were Yoga and LitLab.

What does GiGi’s NYC mean to you?

GiGi’s NYC means that I have a chance to meet new people, make new friendsand do new things that I have never done before.

What have you gained from our programs?

I have gained new friendships with people (special shoutout to Troy, Noah, Peter, Denise and Mailk)!

What do you look forward to doing at the Playhouse once we can safely gather there again?

I look forward to having Friendsgiving together and to having wild dance parties!

How do you enjoy spending your free time?

I mostly listen to music and do lots of creative writing

What does Down syndrome awareness and acceptance look like to you?

Down syndrome acceptance means that people should be accepted for who they are no matter what. You should keep spreading Down syndrome awareness to everyone because we are proud to have Down syndrome and that’s what makes us special.

What do you want the GiGi’s NYC community to know?

had a college interview a few weeks ago, and I did so well. The GiGi’s Playhouse NYC community helped me gained confidence in how I present myself, and I thank you.

What would you like to see from GiGi’s NYC in the future? Do you have any ideas for new programs or special events?

If Broadway is opened back upcan we go see a musical? [Yes, we can!]

Kaiya, we are moved by your beautiful words and are so proud of all of your incredible achievements! We can’t wait to see you at more programming soon! You are truly amazing, and are showing the world that the possibilities are endless for individuals with Down syndrome 😊
