Volunteer Spotlight – Craig

Craig has been a volunteer since February of 2020. He has been tutoring Ravaughn and Kate for the past two years in literacy and math. Craig was the owner of Barring Distributing, which sold replacement machine parts to factories. He sold the business after 40 years and now spends much of his free time golfing and playing with his granddaughter when he is not at GiGi’s. Craig also had a younger brother, Kenny, who had Down syndrome. Craig became interested in volunteering after his daughter introduced him to the Kulka family. We are so thankful to have Craig as a volunteer and advocate for our Playhouse.

Craig states that he “gets as much if not more from volunteering than he feels he helps (his students).” He enjoys the banter and friendship that has developed between Kate, Rayvaughn, and himself. Craig does not have a background in education and doesn’t love using the computer to record Kate and Ravaughn’s learning progressions, but he tries his best, and thanks to the support of the Playhouse he is making a difference in their lives as well as developing a fantastic friendship with these adult participants.
