Volunteer spotlight – Audrey

I absolutely love being involved with GiGi’s Playhouse Milwaukee! Being new to the area, GiGi’s has already been so welcoming, and everyone I have met in tutoring and other programs have been so kind! I love getting to see Davis (her student, 5 years old) every week for tutoring and working on literacy skills such as rhyming, and forming sentences. One of my favorite memories was when I introduced a sight word board game to our session. Davis got so excited and competitive, and he was so determined to beat me! To see him so involved in an activity, especially in a virtual setting, brought such a smile to my face. By the end of the game Davis recognized the words we were using and could even recite them in the leveled book we were reading! Even though tutoring in an online format brought forth its own challenges, GiGi’s gave a plethora of creative ideas to implement in our session. I was able to search for activities directly catered to Davis’ interests, such as Paw Patrol, to keep him engaged and motivated to learn. I can’t wait for another session with Davis!
