A multicultural experience at GiGi’s Playhouse Madison

We had the most amazing five weeks at Club GiGi! Our adults bonded so well with the Mandela Washington Fellows and the interns voted GiGi’s Playhouse THE BEST volunteer place! Francis from Nigeria, Rose from Uganda, Bertha from Tanzania, Silomo from South Africa, and Bridget from Ghana were part of Club GiGi for five wonderful weeks. Our participants loved the multicultural aspect of the class and we learned about Africa, traditional African and modern dances and all participants had the opportunity to practice drumming using the drums donated to us by the original cast from the Lion King. Our interns loved the fact that they became an integral part of GiGi’s and for becoming friends with our participants. During the last class we all cooked a dish from Ghana and set the table real nice and had dinner together. Even some parents joined. And, of course, we danced and drummed again at the end. It was a great time!
