Volunteer Opportunity
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals with Down syndrome. GiGi’s Playhouse is a volunteer-run organization, and thanks to the skills and dedication of volunteers like you, we are able to offer purposeful programs, FREE of charge, to our families.
Since our Madison Playhouse opened in 2016, parents, family members, clinicians, and community members who believe in the GiGi’s Playhouse mission act as volunteers in our programs, committees, events, administrative office, and on our Board of Directors.
The following list shows our current volunteer opportunities. You will see there is an assortment of time commitments and skill level. After reviewing this list please submit a volunteer application so we can start a conversation about finding the best volunteer role for you! Submitting the application does not commit to you anything .

FAMILY OUTREACH COMMITTEE
We are forming a Family Outreach Committee who's role will be to help in connecting Playhouse families, identifying and supporting family needs, and providing direction and execution for applicable portions of the best practices our national office shares.

Becoming A Volunteer
To become a volunteer, you must complete the following steps.
- Read our website in order to familiarize yourself with the Playhouse mission, vision, programs and events.
- Submit a Volunteer Application to give Playhouse staff your general information, interests, and availability
Literacy and Math Tutors
- This is an on-going need for the 3 sessions we offer a year!
No prior experience is needed and all training and resources are provided. - You will be paired with one student and will meet for a 10 week session on the same day and time of your choosing each week.

Program Intern
- The Programs Intern supports our Programs and Volunteer Manager in daily Playhouse operations, primarily supporting our Group Programs and other Volunteers. Program Interns help Co-Lead 1-2 Programs per session and may tutor in Math or Literacy pending applications. Interns are an active member of our Playhouse, working with staff 2-3 days per week for up to 10 hours. Program Leaders
- Serves as the lead volunteer to their assigned program. Responsible for planning purposeful, goal-oriented activities for each class per session. Takes the lead on each activity and supports participant engagement. Greets participants and engages with families before and after programming. Program Leaders are outgoing, dependable, energetic, organized, and welcoming. They are good problem-solvers and have strong communication and critical-thinking skills. Time commitment can range from 1.5-3 hours each week. All program resources and volunteer trainings are provided by GiGi’s. This role is great for individuals looking to advance their leadership skills, work directly with individuals with Down syndrome, and be a part of a fun and inclusive!
Program Assistant
- Support Program Leaders in activity facilitation and participant engagement. They are encouraging, patient, energetic, welcoming and kind. They have strong communication skills and can jump in to take lead when needed. Time commitment can range from 1.5-3 hours each week. All program resources and volunteer trainings are provided by GiGi’s.
This role is great for individuals looking to grow their leadership skills and work on a team.
Program Greeter
- Program Greeters play an essential role in our Group Programming. They are responsible for greeting and welcoming all families before each program. They ensure everyone who enters the Playhouse is checking in at the kiosk.

Clean Team
- We have a beautiful space and need to keep it in great shape! This can be a great opportunity for larger groups but we can use individuals as well!

Board of Directors
- Works together with full board to adopt sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies. Ensures GiGi’s has adequate resources to advance its mission. Monitors the overall management of the Playhouse. Determines the Playhouse’s goals and policies. Serves on a committee: Programs, Fundraising, Outreach, Events, Marketing, or Facility/IT.
