Random Acts of Kindness and World Down Syndrome Day

GiGi’s Playhouse Indianapolis and Down Syndrome Indiana are joining together on March 19, 2016 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day just a little bit early. Festivities will include face painting, arts and crafts, snacks, a photo booth, and a “Make and Take” act of kindness station.

Random Acts of Kindness (RAKs) can have a lasting impact. One random act can create a ripple effect as recipients pay it forward and experience the joy of giving. This World Down Syndrome Day, individuals with Down syndrome, their friends and family will have fun and get creative while spreading kindness in their community.

An incredible Random Act of Kindness recently impacted Kevin, one of our Playhouse participants, IMG_0736kevin1and his family. Kevin had major surgery resulting in the need for him to be in a medically induced coma in the ICU for 3 weeks. Kevin has severe obstructive sleep apnea and therefore needed his jaw moved forward to help improve his ability to breath. Kevin is currently recovering well from this risky surgery. The family was recently overwhelmed with gratitude to receive acts of kindness and incredible support from the Sparrow Club as well as proceeds from a school bake sale. Kevin is scheduled for a follow up surgery later this month which will again take a lot of recovery and physical therapy. The family has voiced their gratitude for the support from their community and these Random Acts of Kindness!
