GiGi’s Acvievers at Our Playhouse

In June, the Hoffman Estates Playhouse started a new Adult Education program, GiGi’s Achievers. The GiGi’s Achievers program empowers adults with Down syndrome with purposeful activities to ensure continued learning and fulfillment of life. This program teaches and promotes communication, self-awareness, independence, health and wellness through community engagement. Each lesson will provide participants with “hands-on” learning experiences in a naturally occurring environment. One of the first activities that the GiGi’s Achievers completed was a volunteer opportunity! We learned all about volunteering, why it’s important to volunteer, and different places that are available in our community to volunteer. The adults in the GiGi’s Achievers program made 2 blankets to donate to a local animal shelter, to be used for 2 lucky dogs who are looking for their fur-ever homes. We loved creating these blankets, and felt good about giving back to our community.

GiGi’s Achievers runs on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12-2. If you are interested in learning more about GiGi’s Achievers, or have a community opportunity for us to engage in, please contact Megan at mfrey@gigisplayhouse.org .
