Participant Spotlight: Somer Shares the GiGi’s Playhouse Mission with Her Community

At GiGi’s Playhouse, our participants inspire us every day—not only through their accomplishments within our Playhouse, but by becoming ambassadors for acceptance and inclusion in their own communities. Recently, our participant Somer did just that by speaking to the Women’s Group at Saint Gregory of Nyssa, where she is a proud member.

The Women’s Group at Saint Gregory of Nyssa has been serving its parish and surrounding community since 1966. Guided by its mission to promote spiritual welfare and faith growth among its members, the group encourages women to stand together in faith while sharing their time, talents, and treasures with those in need.

Recently, Somer had the opportunity to share what GiGi’s Playhouse means to her personally. She wrote her own speech and spoke about the impact our free educational, therapeutic, career development, and fitness programs have on individuals with Down syndrome and their families, including how she has benefited from the free programming her entire life!

Inspired by Somer’s heartfelt presentation, the Women’s Group selected GiGi’s Playhouse as one of the organizations to receive a donation from the funds they distribute before their summer break. Members are invited to suggest organizations that are meaningful to them, and Somer proudly brought forward GiGi’s Playhouse as her recommendation.

We are incredibly grateful to and SO proud of Somer for confidently sharing her story and advocating for GiGi’s Playhouse. She reminds us that every voice has the power to create awareness, inspire generosity, and build a more accepting world.
