Best Of All: “Falling” into literacy!

This Week’s Best of All moment comes to us from one of our long time tutors, Jody! Jody and Megan have been working together in literacy and math for the past few sessions, focusing on increasing reading comprehension and story elements. Jody had an idea to begin using Chat GPT to increase engagement and interest in the stories they were reading. Megan would come up with story ideas and topics, Jody would input her ideas into Chat GPT, and the rest is history!

“Megan’s best of all moment started during our summer session with the creation of weekly stories with table of contents and comprehension questions after each chapter. Megan’s creativity helped build a storyline that carries over from week to week with her as the main character. She picks the plot, the location and 3-5 themes and then we use ChatGPT to build the story. This has been a highlight of our literacy sessions, building interest and helping with comprehension and having of fun. Great work Megan!!!” -Jody

What makes this approach so effective isn’t just the technology—it’s the relationship. Jody uses ChatGPT as a tool, not a replacement. He helps Megan interpret the answers, ask better questions, and think more deeply about what she’s reading, all while incorporating her own creative ideas into the stories she reads. The combination of human connection and AI support has created a space where learning feels empowering, not intimidating.
