Back to school and READY!!!

louise readingIt’s hard to believe that a new school year is upon us and that Louise will be starting second grade! As we are gearing up for school, I have been reflecting on how far Louise has come since the start of this year.  After deciding to leave a terrible situation, Louise has been home schooled since February. We’ve been working hard to make sure Louise doesn’t fall behind and we couldn’t be prouder of how she has grown in these past several months!

When we began home schooling, we also set Louise up with speech therapy, literacy and math tutoring at GiGi’s Playhouse. Upon starting these programs, we immediately saw a boost in Louise’s self esteem. She is surrounded by professionals and volunteers at GiGi’s who see how smart she is and see the potential she has. When I talk with the speech therapist and the tutors, I can feel how much they care about Louise and her future. I know Louise feels that love too, and she is more confident because of it. Sarah Buti, the playhouse speech therapist, and Louise have a routine they follow, and Louise flourishes with Sarah. Sarah sets clear goals and expectations, and Louise rises to the challenge to reach those goals and shine. Louise’s speech is clearer, and she is speaking in longer sentences since starting speech therapy at the playhouse.

The literacy and math programs have helped Louise advance in academics as well. The tutors knew almost instantly how to work best with Louise and tailored the sessions to build on her current skill sets. Since starting the tutoring programs, Louise has increased her fluency and she is working on more complex math problems. YES! Go Louise!

We are thrilled at Louise’s growth and grateful for the wonderful programs that GiGi’s offers. GiGi’s has been, and continues to be, an integral part of our lives. We are looking forward to new beginnings this year in a new district, and we thank GiGi’s for helping boost Louise’s confidence and academics!
