Thank you to RS & H Elevate for the grant we received to increase our participation in the Spring GiGi’s Playhouse math program! With the funds, we were able to support more tutors with our online Learned Management System and provide take-home resources for the learners both virtual and in person.
“I began volunteering because I was interested in learning more about people with Down syndrome. I am interested in becoming a pediatrician in the future, so I wanted to learn more about various conditions, one of which is Down syndrome. I did not know much about people with Down syndrome, but I do know that they are the nicest people I have ever met. They bring a smile to your face. I have always enjoyed sharing my skills, so I chose to become more involved as a volunteer at GiGi’s Playhouse. I started my journey with GiGi’s Playhouse as a Math Tutor. The learner I am paired with is Sabrina, who is the sweetest and most beautiful girl on the planet. She enters each week’s lesson with a big smile on her face, which instantly brightens my day. Sabrina just finished level 1 and has progressed to level 2; we celebrate her knowledge and Best of All moments- she is making great strides and does not need me at all because she is so smart. As I began tutoring Sabrina, I felt an urge to do more around GiGi’s Playhouse, so I applied to be a Math Coordinator so that I could do my part in assisting others and sharing my knowledge.” -Yazhini, Volunteer Math Coordinator & Tutor for GiGi’s At Home and Hoffman Estates
