Volunteer Spotlight – Catherine!

If you’re familiar with GiGi’s Playhouse, you know full well how much we rely on our volunteers and how they are truly the heartbeat of our Playhouse! We are excited to introduce you to Catherine, one of our amazing math tutors! We love Catherine’s story and want to share it with you!

Catherine first stepped into GiGi’s Playhouse back in 2016 when she, at 10 years old, came with her Irish dance school to perform for St. Patrick’s Day. Little did we know the impact she would have on our participants 6 years later!

“My name is Catherine and I first became involved with GiGi’s Playhouse through my cousin Maggie, who has Down syndrome, and her family. I am a junior at Magnificat High School and recently became a math tutor for GiGi’s. I have been tutoring both Lael and Caden this summer and they each have inspired me and already taught me so much. One of my favorite subjects is math. I love being able to share my appreciation for the subject through tutoring. I am excited to continue volunteering at GiGi’s Playhouse!”

Lael’s mom shares, “Catherine has been such a gentle, caring presence in my daughter’s life. Her warm, welcoming demeanor always ushers in a willingness to jump into the fun lessons she has planned. She does a great job of preparing materials and activities ahead of time, but also is incredibly flexible, turning every distraction into a lesson! She is wise beyond her years and a joy to be around!”

Thank you, Catherine, for spending a few hours each week with Lael and Caden this summer and helping them grow and learn!
