Volunteer Spotlight – Avery

Avery first heard about GiGi’s Playhouse when we met her at a Wade Oval Wednesday event last summer. Finally having time in her busy schedule between school and work, she was our first volunteer to join us since the pandemic hit. After attending our first virtual volunteer orientation she jumped right in! She’s been tutoring one of our school agers this summer and has been such a wonderful addition to our tutoring team. Avery works at Beyond Words Music & Dance Center and is currently studying Speech-Language Pathology at Cleveland State University.

Avery shares, “I look forward to seeing Kennedy every week and love seeing her progress. Not to mention that her vibrant personality and determination to learn makes the process even more enjoyable! GiGi’s has made the virtual tutoring sessions easy to navigate and user friendly for both the tutor and the student. I am so grateful for this experience and for all that GiGi’s does to send the message that people with Down syndrome should be accepted by all.”

Avery, thank you for joining our GiGi’s family and for volunteering your time, knowledge and energy to supporting our mission!

I hope my eight-year-old granddaughter, Avery, makes a similar decision to volunteer at GiGi’s someday just like this young lady, Avery! Thank you, Avery. for your support and willingness to help tutor individuals who learn differently than you do and at a different pace! You are a difference-maker in our world! ❤️
