Best of All – Mike
Magnetic Mike is truly what we should be calling this individual. When he enters the Playhouse, everyone gravitates towards him and his energy. Whether you find him focused on a game, busting a move on the dance floor, or helping clean up after a program, Mike embodies the meaning of Best of All. We invite you to learn more about this incredible human in our blog below.

When Mike first walked through the doors of GiGi’s Playhouse Cleveland in September of 2024, it took only seconds to know he was home. That feeling was made clear almost immediately, not just by the way he lovingly shooed his mom out the door, but by the comfort, confidence, and ease with which he jumped right in. It also didn’t hurt that Mike spotted a familiar face from elementary school, our very own David. Or that one of our volunteers instantly recognized him as “Uncle Mike” from countless baseball games her sons once played. From every angle, the signs were there: Mike was always meant to be here.
As this month’s Best of All, Mike truly shines. During the day, he works at the local Robeks, lives independently with a few other gentlemen, and approaches every opportunity with an unmatched work ethic – always giving 110%. That same dedication shows up time and time again at the Playhouse.
Mike has been a huge help with our social media and marketing efforts, especially during one of our favorite partnerships with Voodoo Tuna. Last year, when our adults headed next door to help prep food for World Down Syndrome Day, Mike understood the assignment immediately and delivered. He worked quickly, stayed focused, and kept asking Joe, the owner, for more tasks. When the work was done, he wanted more. Knowing how much Mike loved his time at Voodoo Tuna and Joe, we later invited him back to help with a behind-the-scenes social media reel. Once again, he gave it everything he had. Without hesitation, he asked Joe for a chef’s coat, grabbed gloves and a plate, and jumped right into preparing a dish like a pro. That kind of spirit, the willingness to show up fully and fearlessly, is exactly what builds bridges and breaks down barriers. And Joe noticed too. Without hesitation, he told us, “If he needs a job, I’d hire him in a heartbeat.”
Inside the walls of the Playhouse, Mike is all about community. He loves when the space is PACKED with friends, and if attendance is ever a little lighter than usual at Games with Friends Adult, he’s the first to notice and the first to ask where everyone is. When game night is in full swing, Mike naturally steps into a leadership role. He dives into each game with enthusiasm, initiates new ones, follows the rules, and adds just the right amount of friendly competition. Always 110%.
Mike is also quick to welcome newcomers with a firm handshake and a warm smile, offering the same sense of belonging he felt on his very first day. And more often than not, he’s the last one to leave a program – soaking up every ounce of Playhouse energy while helping put away tables, chairs, and program materials.
And then there are the moments that simply make us smile. Like the time Mike appointed himself “Best Man” at a bridal shower for our Operations Manager, Mary. He took it upon himself to share a heartfelt speech and wasn’t afraid to full-on dive to secure the bouquet during the toss. (Yes, it’s on video.)
All of this to say: Mike is someone who truly lives out the meaning of Best of All. His energy, kindness, leadership, and commitment radiate through every interaction, every game, and every moment he shares with our community.
We are so grateful Mike found his way home to the Playhouse, and even more grateful for the joy he brings with him each and every time he walks through our doors.
