Volunteer Spotlight: Kyra!

Name
Kyra F.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a high school senior at Jackson High School. I’m currently looking at colleges to major in special education. I work as a server at Gervasi Vineyard.

We want to get to know you! What are some of your favorites? (food, color, season, activity, restaurant, place to shop, etc.)
I love all things Italian food! My favorite restaurant is Twisted Olive. Fall is my favorite time of year, I love the chill fall mornings bring! I love to walk my dog, dog sit, and babysit!

How did you learn about GiGi’s and what prompted you to become a volunteer?
I learned about GiGi’s through my school announcements. I wanted to become a volunteer because I’ve always like helping people with special needs become more independent.

Tell us more about what you do at the Playhouse!
I am a literacy tutor, as well as a volunteer for GiGi’s Kitchen. I love making fun activities and interactive lessons for participants to have fun while learning! For GiGi’s Kitchen, myself and our lead volunteer are working to create activities and lessons to help participants learn how to eat healthy, be safe, and have fun in the kitchen! Additionally, I am the marketing chair for the Youth Board, and I run our Youth Board Instagram account.

What is your favorite experience you have had at the Playhouse?
My favorite thing at the Playhouse is seeing participants’ faces light up when they understand a lesson, or when they get to enjoy the food they have worked hard to make!

Kyra, you have made a tremendous impact on GiGi’s Playhouse Canton and we are so grateful for your contributions! Your involvement in Playhouse activities, from programs to special events, does not go unnoticed. We love when our high school volunteers find a home away from home at GiGi’s and help make the world a more accepting place – you truly embody what it means to be #GenerationG!
