Welcome to GiGi’s Playhouse Canton! We’re thrilled that you’re interested in joining our team of dedicated volunteers. At GiGi’s Playhouse, we believe in the potential of every individual with Down syndrome, and our volunteers play a crucial role in supporting our mission to change lives through consistent delivery of free educational, therapeutic-based, and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the community.

Volunteer Openings for Summer 2024

1. Program Assistant for GiGiFIT Adult (Friends, Fun & Fitness) Bi-weekly:

Description: GiGiFIT Adult is a fitness program designed to empower adults with Down syndrome to lead healthy and active lifestyles. As a Program Assistant, you will support the Program Lead in facilitating bi-weekly sessions focused on improving strength, endurance, and overall fitness levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setup and cleanup before and after GiGiFIT Adult sessions, ensuring all equipment is organized and accessible.
  • Support participants during fitness activities, offering encouragement, assistance, and modifications as needed to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants feel motivated and supported to achieve their fitness goals.
  • Collaborate with the Program Lead to implement engaging and varied workouts that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of participants.
  • Collect feedback from participants and provide input to the Program Lead for continuous improvement of the program.

2. Program Assistant for GiGiFIT Teen (Friends, Fun & Fitness):

Description: GiGiFIT Teen is a fitness program designed specifically for teenagers with Down syndrome, focusing on building strength, coordination, and confidence through fun and interactive exercises. As a Program Assistant, you will work alongside the Program Lead to support teens in achieving their fitness goals and fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setup and cleanup for GiGiFIT Teen sessions, ensuring all necessary equipment and materials are readily available.
  • Engage with participants during fitness activities, providing encouragement, guidance, and assistance as needed to enhance their experience.
  • Collaborate with the Program Lead to develop age-appropriate workouts and activities that cater to the unique needs and interests of teenage participants.
  • Promote teamwork, cooperation, and positive peer interactions among participants to create a supportive and inclusive fitness community.
  • Assist with monitoring participant progress and adjusting activities as necessary to ensure a safe and effective workout environment.

3. Program Assistant for GiGiFIT Infant:

Description: GiGiFIT Infant is a specialized program designed to introduce movement and sensory experiences to infants (ages 0-12 months) with Down syndrome. As a Program Assistant, you will work closely with the Program Lead to create a nurturing and stimulating environment that supports infants’ early development and bonding with caregivers.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setting up and cleaning up the space before and after GiGiFIT Infant sessions, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for participants and their caregivers.
  • Engage with infants and their caregivers during sensory-rich activities, providing support, encouragement, and assistance as needed to enhance their experience.
  • Collaborate with the Program Lead to develop age-appropriate exercises and sensory experiences that promote motor development, sensory integration, and bonding.
  • Foster positive interactions between caregivers and infants, providing guidance on techniques for supporting infants’ development and strengthening the parent-infant bond.
  • Assist with monitoring infant’s responses and adjusting activities as necessary to ensure a stimulating and enjoyable experience for all participants.

4. Program Assistant for GiGi’s Kitchen Adult:

Description: GiGi’s Kitchen Adult is a cooking and nutrition program designed to empower adults with Down syndrome to develop culinary skills, independence, and healthy eating habits. As a Program Assistant, you will support the Program Lead in delivering engaging cooking sessions that promote confidence, creativity, and healthy living.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setup and cleanup for GiGi’s Kitchen Adult sessions, ensuring all necessary ingredients, utensils, and equipment are readily available.
  • Engage participants in hands-on cooking activities, providing guidance, encouragement, and support as they explore new recipes and techniques.
  • Collaborate with the Program Lead to develop a curriculum that promotes culinary skills development, nutrition education, and independence in the kitchen.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where participants feel empowered to experiment with flavors, textures, and cooking methods.
  • Assist with meal preparation, serving, and cleanup, promoting teamwork and cooperation among participants.
