Current Volunteer Opportunities

Welcome to GiGi’s Playhouse Canton! We’re thrilled that you’re interested in joining our team of dedicated volunteers. At GiGi’s Playhouse, we believe in the potential of every individual with Down syndrome, and our volunteers play a crucial role in supporting our mission to change lives through consistent delivery of free educational, therapeutic-based, and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the community.

Volunteer Openings for Spring 2025

1. Program Assistant for GiGiFIT Preschoolers – Weekly:

Description: GiGiFIT Preschoolers takes concepts of foundational movements, mobility activities, visual-vestibular activities, and reflex integration to the next level in a fast-paced, super fun and socially interactive atmosphere for young children who have recently mastered the ability to walk on their own. Physical Therapy Goals: Strength, Endurance, Joint Stability, Balance, Coordination, Sequencing, Motor Planning, Independent Movement

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with setup and cleanup before and after GiGiFIT Preschoolers sessions, ensuring all equipment is clean, organized and accessible.
  • Support participants during fitness activities, offering encouragement, assistance, and modifications as needed to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants feel motivated and supported to achieve their fitness goals.
  • Collaborate with the Program Lead to implement engaging and varied workouts that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of participants.
  • Collect feedback from participants and provide input to the Program Lead for continuous improvement of the program.

2. Board Vice President – Monthly (and as needed):

Description:
The Board Vice President serves as a key leader in advancing the mission of GiGi’s Playhouse, providing strategic guidance, supporting the President, and serving as a community ambassador with a strong focus on fundraising and outreach.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings and actively participate in discussions, decision-making, and planning to help guide the Playhouse’s initiatives and goals.
  • Assist the President in overseeing board activities and managing projects, ensuring alignment with the Playhouse’s mission and objectives.
  • Act as an ambassador for GiGi’s Playhouse, building relationships with community stakeholders and promoting the Playhouse’s mission and vision.
  • Lead or support fundraising efforts, including organizing events, securing sponsorships, and identifying opportunities for donor engagement.
  • Collaborate with fellow Board and staff to enhance outreach and community engagement strategies.

3. 2025 Fundraising Event Committee Members – Monthly (and as needed):

Description:
Join the Fundraising Event Committee to help plan and execute signature events like A Night for GiGi’s, Dash for Down Syndrome, and Putts & Pints for a Purpose in 2025. Work behind the scenes to create memorable and impactful events that raise awareness and funds for GiGi’s Playhouse.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend regular planning meetings (frequency determined by the committee) to contribute ideas and strategies for event planning, logistics, and execution.
  • Assist with event preparation, including vendor coordination, securing sponsorships, and promoting the events through various channels.
  • Support day-of event operations, such as setup, check-in, volunteer coordination, and cleanup.
  • Engage with participants, sponsors, and community members to foster enthusiasm and support for the Playhouse’s mission.
  • Provide feedback and ideas for continuous improvement of fundraising events.

4. Tutors – Weekly (1 hour per week):

Description:
Provide personalized, one-on-one educational support in literacy or math to individuals with Down syndrome, helping them build confidence, independence, and critical skills in an encouraging and structured learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend training sessions provided by GiGi’s Playhouse to prepare for tutoring sessions and ensure alignment with best practices.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans tailored to the individual needs, goals, and abilities of each student.
  • Create a supportive and motivating atmosphere where students feel valued and excited to learn.
  • Monitor progress and communicate regularly with the Playhouse team to ensure students are meeting their goals.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of learning materials to maintain an organized and welcoming environment.
