One-on-One Program Coordinator – Volunteer Spotlight

I’m Genny or as some like to call me DJ Genny B. I’m the one on one program coordinator and the sole member of the IT team. I am also a board member and on the outreach committee. I am a third grade teacher at The Golden Key School for Exceptional Children. While I don’t have any kiddos of my own, the Budd Family has always let me share their’s. Their youngest, Monroe, has Down syndrome and she’s the reason I became involved in GiGi’s Playhouse. I wanted to make sure she had a place to go where she could get everything she needed, where she would feel loved and supported. Bringing a GiGi’s to Canton was the way to make that happen. I’ve been a part of GiGi’s Canton family from the very first meeting at a Panera Bread. It’s been a great adventure that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.
GiGi’s Playhouse gives us all a place to share the beautiful message of acceptance for all. Being able to offer free educational and therapeutic programs to ANYONE who needs it, is so awesome. Knowing that what I do changes lives makes my heart so happy. GiGi’s makes it possible to connect people together in ways that may not have been possible without it. We connect volunteers with participants and create amazing bonds that will last a lifetime. We help connect participants with each other to form lasting friendships. We also help connect parents with other parents so they know they’re not alone. GiGi’s Playhouse is made out of a community full of love, support, and acceptance. Everything that GiGi’s is now and everything that it will be, makes everything worth it. Seeing the smiles on the faces of our participants faces and hearing their laughs makes reading instruction manuals till my eyes crossed worth it. I am so excited to see what’s next for us. What started with one little girl being born with an extra chromosome has blossomed into this amazing place that helps us prove we are #strongertogether!
