Celebrating Speech Therapy Successes!

In the fall of 2024 another semester of incredible progress has been completed at GiGi’s Playhouse Atlanta through the Amina Grace Speech Therapy Program. It’s time to celebrate the amazing achievements of all our participants!

This semester, graduate students from Georgia State University’s Communication Sciences and Disorders program provided individualized therapy to 19 participants and facilitated an adult group of 12 individuals. From toddlers discovering new ways to communicate to adults rediscovering their voices, the progress made by each participant has been truly inspiring. Let’s dive into some of the standout moments that made this semester unforgettable.

Building Friendships and Communication Skills

Two young participants became fast friends during their therapy sessions, which were scheduled at the same time. Together, they enjoyed “picnics” as they practiced feeding skills and communicating with each other. Watching their bond grow alongside their skills was a joy for everyone involved.

Nurturing a Passion for Music

When singing is a passion, GiGi’s Playhouse is ready to support it! Lainey worked diligently on her breathing and speech production to enhance her performances. Her hard work is evident when she takes the stage with a backup band, inspiring everyone with her talent and determination.

Rediscovering the Joy of Communication

One of the most heartwarming stories of the semester belongs to Kelly, an incredible adult participant who had lost her desire to speak for several years. At the end of summer, she began speaking again in our adult group, and this semester, she has truly found her voice. Kelly’s journey reached a high point during her final performance of “Defying Gravity.” Her emotional and powerful rendition left everyone with chills and tears of joy. Her family’s excitement about her progress at home is a testament to her hard work and the supportive environment at GiGi’s.

Whether it’s forming friendships, pursuing passions, or rediscovering lost abilities, every step forward is a reason to celebrate.
