Summer Camp> a parent’s perspective

This week I have had the privilege of helping at the Summer Camp at Gigi’s Playhouse. What an amazing experience Alita and Jennifer created for all the kids. Along with Fred, Gretchen, and countless others, careful planning was done to ensure all the campers were paired with a “Buddy” to interact with, and participate in all the fun activities. Each day was filled with arts and crafts, playtime, exercise time, and snack time. These awesome ladies also scheduled gymnastics groups, dance groups and a therapy dog to entertain the kids. Campers and Buddies began and ended every day with a friendship circle.
The Buddies formed special bonds with the campers that was incredible to see. I was impressed with the number of teenage volunteers who dedicated their time and love to make it a fantastic week. Several therapists and specialists also volunteered their time and expertise with us.
Thank you Gigi’s Playhouse for allowing me and my beautiful Cortni to be somewhere so loving and caring as the inside of your playhouse.
My journey through Holland got even brighter this week after meeting and seeing everyone working together to show our kids abilities, talents, and personalities.

What does Eve like to do or need? GiGi’s serves All ages and all of our programming is free of charge. We look to relaunch Fantastic Friends, which is an adult group that meets once a month, in January. We also have a fitness class and drama group that is 8 + with no top end age cap. If you have a particular need we will also try to find appropriate volunteers to help fill the need. We have, by the nature of our founding board members children’s ages, been a young playhouse, although we are attempting to grow our our adult population. We would love to meet you and Eve and have you apart of our Playhouse.

We do have numerous Playhouses in the Midwest, and the activities and programs vary from Playhouse to Playhouse depending on the volunteers that are available there. As far as establishing Playhouses in a particular community, they are established by a local Board of Directors who saw a need in the community. They are not opened by our Inc., they provide startup guidance and support, but not the actual build outs. The Inc web page can be found at http://www.gigisplayhouse.org
