Q&A with Kalea

Our Youth Board continues to rock it out of the park!  Get to know a bit about Kalea with her question and answer series…

Why did you join GiGi’s Playhouse?

I joined GiGi’s Youth Board because I felt that this was a step for me to prepare for college and life. By stepping out to help the GiGi’s community, I could simultaneously help and meet others while helping myself grow as a person. I know my being here will change me for the better, and if I can help others along the way, that’s another win!

What is one fun thing about you?

One fun thing about me is that I visited Yellowstone National Park with my family last year. It was absolutely stunning and I found out I really have a thing for looking at rivers.

What is one thing you hope to do or change in our community, in regard to GiGi’s?

If I could, I want to spread the truths and exposing the falsehoods about Down syndrome—or any physical/mental disorder. We’ve gotten forward in de-stigmatizing then by bounds and leaps, but we can always do more.

What’s your favorite space within GiGi’s Playhouse?

My favorite space at GiGi’s is definitely going to be the sensory room. I love seeing people find a passion or safe space. I think that providing children and adults a room where they can find a sense of relief and curiosity is amazing, and I can’t wait to see what’s going to be in there.
