Volunteer Spotlight…Owen
Owen has been part of the Playhouse volunteer family since January of 2024. He joined the youth board after his brother who served left for college. Here is a question and answer with Owen:
Why have you chosen to give your time to GiGi’s?
I have chosen to give my time to GiGi’s becauseI I feel that giving back to my community is the best way for me to grow as a person, and I believe GiGi’s is a model organization in our community. Furthermore, the things that the GiGi’s team do for everyone affected by Down Syndrome are just incredible.
What is the project you created to support the Playhouse?
The business I created is called Bird Buddies. I build bird feeders and make decal stickers to sell in order to spread awareness for and support GiGi’s Playhouse – Wausau and Down Syndrome. My brother and I started this project together about two years ago. I source all of the wood for the bird bark feeders from the forest at my cabin up north.
What are your goals for the project?
My goals are to raise as much money as I can for the Playhouse and also to spread the GiGi’s message throughout the community to build awareness for this wonderful organization.
What is one thing you have learned about your time at GiGi’s?
One thing I have learned from my time at GiGi’s is how to be a more inclusive person overall. After spending time with the participants at GiGi’s, I have realized just how wonderful they are as people and how much of a joy it is to be around them. This emphasized in my mind how truly important it is to be an accepting, generous, and kind person.
Thank You Owen for your creativeness and dedication to the Playhouse!
